STP Model Thermocontracting
Cable Coupling Sleeves
STp model thermocontracting cable coupling sleeves are designed
for coupling three- or four-core power cables with impregnated-paper and plastic
isolation. They are for use with voltages of up to 10 kV. These sleeves can be
mounted either underground or outdoors on vertical cable routings, etc., without
limitation of level difference.
The sleeves contain two thermocontracting
gloves, which are made of an insulating compound. The inner surface of each glove
is covered by a fusible sealer adhesive. Upon contraction of the gloves, the sealer
fills in the cable root's hollows and completely seals the termination point.
Cable-core tubes and guards virtually form a new insulation of the conductors
at the cable coupling point. All the thermocontracting materials used in the sleeve
mounting retain their stress-strain properties and sufficient electric strength
(at least 30 kV/mm2) after contraction provided the temperature range does not
exceed -50 to +100°C.
Thermocontracting articles provide complete impermeability
and high insulating properties. In addition, they have a high mechanical strength
and are resistant to chemical action and environmental effect.
