    Aluminum Thimbles

Crimp-fixed aluminum thimbles, GOST 9581-80, climatic construction UHLZ, are designed for termination of cables and wires with aluminum conductors constructed of 16- to 240-mm2 gauge and are designed for voltages up to 35 kV.

Frequently used identifications of aluminum thimbles utilized in crimping:

    1) Letter symbols:
    A; TA; Al(o)
  • "T" stands for 'tube' - the material of which the thimbles are made. Alternatively, thimbles designed for crimping can be either cast or manufactured of plain bars.
  • "A" stands for "aluminum": the material of which the thimble is made.
  • "Al(o)" - Al is the Latin symbol for aluminum that is used in the periodic table of elements. The "o" letter in parentheses means that the thimble is designed for crimping.
  • 2) Numerical symbols:
    95-12-13; 95-12; 95; 13

    Differences between conductor types

    Sector type

    Normal type

    Note:
Because the outer diameter of the sector conductor is more than that of a normal (round) conductor in the same section, it is necessary to either round the conductor prior to crimping, or use the thimbles in the next larger section. For example, with a 95mm²-gauge sector conductor a 120mm² thimble should be used.
