A cock is a locking device in which the gate's (stopper's)
actuated part has a holed body-of-rotation shape that allows for the flow's movement
and stops the flow by means of spinning. Distinctive features of these cocks
are their simple design, their compactness, their small/medium flow resistance,
their relatively small height, their performance reliability and their high response
speed in comparison to other types of stop valves. These cocks' area of application
is limited by the pressure exerted by the sliding elements used in it. By
their body embodiment, these cocks are divided into: - straight-through cocks
(the body has coaxial sockets); - angle cocks (the body has perpendicular
sockets); - multiway (usually three-way) cocks with a locking element, which
guides the flow to several pipelines. Depending on the geometry of the stopper's
sealing surface and its home industry manufactured body, these cocks are divided
into two basic types: lifting-plug and ball cocks.
